The Varsity Blues fastpitch team dropped a narrow 2-1 decision to the perennial powerhouse Western Mustangs in the OIWFA championship final on Sunday, October 23 in London, Ont.
The Blues went 4-2 over the weekend to claim the silver medal – their best finish at the championship since a second-place finish in 2006.
Toronto opened the championship with a dominant 10-1 victory over the Windsor Lancers on Friday night. U of T followed that up with another big 8-1 win versus the McMaster Marauders on Saturday afternoon.
The Mustangs handed Toronto their first loss of the weekend, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon, forcing the Blues into a quarter-final with the Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday.
The Blues bounced back from the loss with another impressive 6-2 victory against Laurier on Sunday morning and went onto edge the Ottawa Gee-Gees in semifinal action to earn a spot in the gold-medal game.
