The Varsity Blues fastpitch team split games with the Brock Badgers before going 2-0 versus the McMaster Marauders this weekend (Oct. 15-16) in OIWFA action.
The Blues dropped their first game on Saturday 5-3 to the Brock Badgers. Down 5-2 in the fifth inning, Toronto battled through four-degree weather and high winds but could only manage to score one more run.
U of T came back in the second game of the day, led by starting pitcher Renee Ridout, and held a 6-1 lead in the sixth inning. Sarah Hipson ended the game with two RBI to enforce the mercy rule and end the game at 8-1.
The Blues were dominant versus the Marauders on Sunday with all-around great hitting and solid defence. In the first game, the Blues hit all down the order, ending the game 10-0 after five innings.
Toronto started in a similar fashion in their second game versus McMaster, however the Marauders mounted a come back in the fifth and sixth innings. The Blues kept their composure to end the game with a 12-7 advantage.
The Varsity Blues return to the field next weekend (Oct.21-23) for the OIWFA championship in London, Ont.
