BLUES FASTPITCH TAKES TWO FROM GRYPHONS

The Varsity Blues fastpitch team edged the Guelph Gryphons 8-7 before recording a dominant 9-0 win on Friday night at Sesqui Park.

After finding themselves down 4-1 heading into the seventh, the Blues rallied with three RBI to even the score and force extra innings.  The Gryphons surged ahead, scoring three runs in the eighth; however, Toronto went to work and sealed the win with a game-winning walk-off hit from third-year short stop Shannon Burke.  Rookie pitcher Renee Ridout earned the win on the mound.

Toronto carried that momentum over to the second game of the night and built an early 5-0 lead after the first inning. U of T added four more and the mercy rule was put into effect.  Blues pitcher Lauren McLaughlin earned the win on the mound.
