DONNELLY PITCHES NO HITTER, BLUES SWEEP GAELS

The Varsity Blues baseball team defeated the Queen’s Gaels 5-4 in extra innings before coming away with an 11-0 victory on Saturday, October 1 at Dan Lang Field.

Jamie Lekas drove in the winning run in extra innings in U of T’s first win of the day.  Both Brent Page and Harrison Carmichael had two RBI. Peter Nash earned the win on the mound, striking out three over three innings of work.

Ryan Donnelly then pitched a game shortened no-hitter, striking out five, as the Blues capped an 11-0 shut out to complete the double header sweep over the Gaels. With a lead of 11 after five innings, the mercy rule was in effect.

Rookie outfielder Jonathan Sartor of Stoufville, Ont., had three RBI, while both Carmichael, Josh Jakymyc and Orian Katayama had two apiece on the day.

The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow as they head to St. Catharines, Ont., to take on the Brock Badgers.  The first game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
