Box Score For the second consecutive night, fourth-year forward Andrew Wasik led the No. 9 Varsity Blues men’s basketball team, this time in a 93-73 loss to the undefeated Carleton Ravens on Saturday, January 8 at the Ravens Nest.
The loss puts Toronto at 7-3 and in second place in the OUA East division, behind the 10-0 Ravens.
A native of Burnaby, B.C., Wasik recorded a team-high 16 points, shooting 66% from the floor. Justin Homes of Toronto drained three three-pointers en route to a 14-point performance, while Arun Kumar had 12 points in the loss.
Toronto opened the scoring in the game but Carleton followed with an 11-point run. The Blues were able to pull within three but the Ravens wouldn’t let them get any closer, taking a 10-point lead (23-13) into the second quarter.
The Ravens continued to play well in the second, thanks in large part to Tyson Hinz, who recorded 23 points and six rebounds by the end of the first half. Carleton took a 45-33 lead into the halftime break.
The Ravens continued their solid play in the third and led 69-51 heading into the final quarter.
Trailing 69-51 heading into the fourth, the Blues kept pace with the Ravens, but the home squad had already built up enough of lead to secure the win.
Hinz led all players with 29 points and 13 boards Carleton’s 10th win of the season.
The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday, January 14 when they travel north to take on the York Lions. Tip off is schedule for 8 p.m.
