Box Score The Varsity Blues men’s basketball team came away with an 89-86 victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday night (Jan. 29) at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.
Burnaby, B.C., native Andrew Wasik recorded a double-double of 22 points and 10 boards, while Alex Hill of Toronto had 18 points and 10 rebounds on the night. Sarajevo, BIH, native Drazen Glisic also tallied 22 points, with Anthony De Giorgio adding nine points and six assists in the win.
The Blues battled back after being down by as many as 10 points in the first half to only trail the Voyageurs by three at halftime (45-42). Laurentian maintained a narrow lead throughout the second half, until a Glisic jumper with four minutes remaining deadlocked the score at 79-79.
The game went back-and-forth from there. De Giorgio came up with a big three with a minute to go and Glisic drove the lane for the extra two in the dying seconds as the Blues held on for the narrow victory.
The Voyageurs were led by Manny and Isiah Pasquale, who totalled 27 and 29 points, respectively. Shavaan Sheldon had 14 points and Georges Serresse had 10 in the loss.
The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday, February 4 when they travel to Kingston, Ont., to take on the Queen’s Gaels. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
