The Varsity Blues track and field team posted some personal best performances at the 2011 Fred Foot memorial meet, January 21-22, at the Athletic Centre Field House.
Leading the way was Juliana Bergin with a personal best performance in the women’s pentathlon. The Baxter, Ont., native finished with a combined score of 3296 points.
Bergin finished first in the 60m hurdles (9.39) and shot put (11.71m), second in both the 600m run (2:27.52) and long jump (5.14m) and cleared 1.39m in the high jump competition.
Also recording a huge personal best was rookie male high jumper Alex Witmer. A Kitchener, Ont., native Witmer cleared 2.17m after a two-year hiatus from competition to finish second overall.
Michael Trnkus of Oakville, Ont., finished first in the 600m with a time of 1:22.28, while Townsend Benard also earned the gold medal in the men’s pole vault, clearing 4.35m.
Laura Maessen and Sarah Oag finished 1-2 in the women’s high jump, jumping 1.65m and 1.60m, respectively.
