Box Score Fourth-year forward Andrew Wasik recorded a career-high 26 points to lead the No. 9 Varsity Blues men’s basketball team to a 94-82 victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday night (Jan. 15) in Sudbury, Ont.
With the win, the Blues remain in second place with an 8-4 record, while the Voyageurs drop to 6-7 and are tied with the York Lions for third place in the OUA East division.
A native of Burnaby, B.C., Wasik was 10-for-13 from the free throw line and shot 57% from the floor while adding eight rebounds on the night.
Four other Varsity Blues hit double digits in the victory. Second-year forward and Toronto native Alex Hill had 16 points, while Sean Nickel contributed 14. Veteran forward Drazen Glisic of Sarajevo, BIH, was just shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine boards, with second-year guard Arun Kumar adding 11 points in the win.
The Blues tallied 30 points in both the first and fourth quarters. Trailing 45-43 at halftime, Toronto slowly mounted their comeback, outscoring the home team 51-37 over the second half to pull off their eighth regular season win of the season.
Laurentian was led by Isiah Pasquale’s game-high 30 points. Mike Hull added 20 points and 10 boards, while Manny Pasquale had 15 points in the losing cause.
The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday, January 21 when they host the RMC Paladins in Veteran’s Night at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
