Varsity Blues catcher Jeremy Hopkins hit a home run to lead a come-from-behind victory over the Waterloo Warriors in the first game of a double header on Sunday, September 12 at Scarborough Campus.
U of T edged out the 4-3 win before dropping a 3-2 decision in the second game of the day.
Down 3-0, the Blues scored two runs in both the seventh and ninth to complete the comeback win. A Toronto native, Hopkins led the effort with two hits, one a home run, and two RBI, while Scott Donnelly and Steve Palladino shared duties on the mound.
The Warriors got out to a quick 2-1 lead in the second game of the day but the Blues were able to even the score in the fifth. Despite a solid team effort, the Warriors were able to pull out the win with one run in the seventh.
U of T’s Greg Katayama (Mississauga, Ont.) pitched the entire game, allowing only five hits. Fifth-year outfielder Jamie Lekas of Toronto had two hits in the loss.
The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday when they host the Brock Badgers at Scarborough Campus. Game times are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
