CFL’S COHON TO TEE-OFF WITH BLUES ALUMNI

Commissioner of the Canadian Football League, Mark Cohon will be the featured guest speaker after he hits the links at the 2010 Friends of Football alumni golf tournament on Tuesday, August 17 at Glencairn Golf Club in Milton, Ont.

Recently named number sixth on the Globe and Mail’s power list of the 30 most influential people in Canadian sport, Cohon is leading a period of positive growth for the CFL, featuring strong attendance, high television ratings and expanding corporate partnerships. However, he is most proud of the positive difference CFL teams make in their communities and the extraordinary power of the Grey Cup championship to bring Canadians together.

After working with major clients such as the NBA and MLB, Cohon is sure to provide innovative insights into the world of sport today. He has also been an active member on the boards of several community organizations, including City Lights Youth Theatre in New York and Youth Challenge International in Toronto.

Also back by popular demand is Bill Watters! A former 237lbs fullback/linebacker and captain of the Blues, he will emcee the evening’s festivities. Watters, a former assistant general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, currently co-hosts Hockey Central on Rogers Sportsnet, The Bill Watters Show on AM 640 Toronto Radio and is a regular contributor on Q107's John Derringer morning show.

Funds from the tournament provide additional financial support and services essential to the Varsity Blues football program’s pursuit of academic and athletic excellence.

The tournament will include dinner, hole prizes as well as a live and silent auction. The event is a 10:30 a.m. shot-gun start with registration and check-in scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
