BLUES FALL TO CARLETON IN EAST SEMIFINAL

Despite Nicki Schutz’ 14th double-double of the season, the Varsity Blues women’s basketball team could not find a way past the first-place Carleton Ravens, falling 68-46 in OUA East semi-final action on Saturday, February 20 to close out their 2009-10 season.

Schutz put up 18 points and 18 boards to lead all players throughout the game. The fourth-year forward dominated the first two quarters for Toronto, however, the Ravens still held a 36-22 lead at halftime.

Carleton extended their lead in the third, holding U of T to only eight points. The Blues attempted to rally in the fourth quarter but it was too little, too late as their playoff run came to an end.

As a team, the Ravens shot 48% from the floor and were 10-for-12 from the free throw line. Toronto struggled from beyond the arc (2-for-11) and went 18-of-58 (31%) from the floor.

Joanna Medri tallied 10 points, including Toronto’s only two three-pointers, while Erin McNeely chipped in with nine in the losing effort.

Carleton was led by Alyson Bush with 17 points, while Ashleigh Clearly had 14. Courtney Smith recorded 12 points and six rebounds in the win.
