WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL GALLOPS OVER GEE-GEES ON THE ROAD

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team defeated the Ottawa Gee-Gees 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-17) in their last regular season home game on Saturday, February 13 in Ottawa, Ont.

The Blues finish the season atop the OUA East standings with a 14-5 record.

Toronto kept and held their advantage throughout the entirety of the game despite the Gee-Gee’s best efforts. Ottawa nearly managed to break back into the game in second set, which ended by close two-point margin, but the Blues, led by Rebecca Crosier (Ottawa) maintained the lead.

Crosier led U of T with 10 kills and eight digs, followed by Karlee Diesing (Coquitlam, B.C.) with nine kills and seven digs.

Kristina Valjas (Toronto) and Katrina Rossall (Calgary) came through with seven and six kills for Toronto, and Shannon Rossall (Calgary) tallied another four. Kathleen Mahannah (North Vancouver, B.C.) also garnered a game-high or 31 assists.

The top scorers for the Gee-Gees were Laura Edwards (Kanata, Ont.) with four kills and five digs and Karina Krueger-Schwanke (Blumenau, Brazil) with four kills and three digs. Notably, Christina Grail (London, Ont.) ended the game with 18 assists.

The Varsity Blues will host either the Gee-Gees or Ryerson Rams in an OUA quarter-final match next Friday, February 19 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
