The University of Toronto men’s volleyball team fell 3-0 (15-25, 21-25, 19-25) to the Guelph Gryphons on Friday, November 5 in Guelph, Ont.

The first set began as a back-and-forth battle, but the Gryphon’s eventually managed to make their advance. Guelph continued to widen the gap until the middle of play, where the Blues took a leap forward. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite enough and the Gryphons took the set 25-15.

The Blues pulled themselves together for the second set and gave the Gryphons a run for their money, pushing into the lead early on in the second set. Rookies Jonathan Adomait of Dundas, Ont. and Jake Dysselhof (Mississauga, Ont.) were key players for the Blues as they maintained their advantage.

Guelph struggled with their defence, but they were never very far behind. In a last minute surge, Guelph managed to take the lead in the last minutes of play for a 25-21 win.

The third set was tight for the first half, continually tying up. The Blues fought hard against but the Gryphons managed to strengthen their defence, and went on to take the set 25-19.

Adomait was the high scorer for the Blues with seven kills and four digs, followed up by Adam Palmer (Ottawa) and Jake Dysselhof with five kills apiece.

The Varsity Blues return to the court on Sunday, November 7 when they host the McMaster Marauders at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
