GRYPHONS GET PAST BLUES

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team fell 3-0 (17-25, 8-25, 16-25) to the Guelph Gryphons on Friday, November 5 in Guelph, Ont.

The Blues began the match well, early on gaining a 5-1 lead, but soon after the Gryphons banded together and regained control of the match. Erinn Bickle (Whitby, Ont.) continuously blocked U of T’s attempted shots, making their defence impenetrable. The Blues were unable to regain control of the game and the Gryphons took the first set 25-17.

The second set was the roughest for the Blues. The Gryphon’s Brooke Lloyd (Whitby, Ont.) helped them gain a dominant advantage from the outset with a 12 point serving run. The Blues continued to fight back, but the margin was too great, and they fell 25-8.

The Blues rallied together for the first set and took the lead early on with the help of ¬high-scorers Charlotte Sider (Ottawa) and Alexandra Hudson (Mississauga, Ont.). Unfortunately, despite some impressive play, the Gryphons regained their momentum after the second technical, winning the game 25-16.

Sider was the high scorer for the Blues with 10 kills and six digs, followed by Hudson with five kills and 10 digs.

The Varsity Blues return to the court tomorrow when they travel to Waterloo for a match versus the Warriors. The game is scheduled for 8 p.m.
