STRONG FIRST QUARTER PUSHES BLUES PAST WARRIORS

Box Score The No. 9 Varsity Blues men’s basketball team held on to a 31-6 first-quarter advantage to come away with an 89-74 victory over the Waterloo Warriors on Friday, November 26 in Waterloo, Ont.

With the win, the Blues improve to 7-1 and sit in second place in the OUA East behind the No. 1 Carleton Ravens, while the Warriors drop to 3-4 and are tied for sixth in the West division.

Forwards Andrew Wasik and Drazen Glisic each recorded double-doubles to lead the Blues to victory. A native of Burnaby, B.C., Wasik tallied 19 points and a game-high 16 boards, while Glisic of Sarajevo, BIH, also led all players with 19 points and added 15 rebounds on the night.

Sophomore forward Alex Hill of Toronto recorded 16 points, with guards Arun Kumar (Hamilton, Ont.) and Justin Holmes (Toronto) adding 11 and 12 points, respectively, in the win.

The Blues took a commanding lead as the hometown Warriors struggled, shooting 5.6% in the first quarter. Waterloo went on to narrowly outscore Toronto over the next three quarters, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Blues came away with their fourth-straight win.

The Warriors were led by Cam McIntyre’s 14 points, while Wayne Bridge had 13 and both Brendan Smith and Andrew Melbournce recorded 12 in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return tot the court tomorrow afternoon when they travel back to Waterloo to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
