Box Score Alex Hill recorded a season-high 27 points as the No. 10 Varsity Blues men’s basketball team handily defeated the Guelph Gryphons 86-70 on Saturday, November 20 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.
With the win, the Blues improve to 5-1 and sit in second place behind the No. 1 Carleton Ravens in the OUA East division. The Gryphons drop to 3-3 and are in a four-way tie for fourth in the West.
After building a solid 42-29 lead at halftime, Hill exploded for 18 second-half points, as the Blues maintained at least a nine-point lead throughout the majority of the game. The Toronto native was 5-for-8 from beyond the arc and 4-for-6 from the free throw line on the night.

Guelph brought the game within nine to start the second half, but Kumar would widen the gap for good with back-to-back three pointers to end the third quarter. Toronto had a 59-46 lead heading into the final frame.
Hill and Glisic went on a shooting frenzy from there, combining for 17 of Toronto’s 27 fourth-quarter points. Guelph’s Daniel McCarthy attempted to rally the troops with 11 of his own, but it wasn’t enough as the Blues walked away with the 86-70 victory.
The Gryphons were led by Michael Petrella’s 17-point performance, while Michel Clark and Jonathan Moscatelli each had 16 points. Daniel McCarthy recorded 14 points and Jerald Greenidge tallied a team-high 10 boards in the loss.
