NO. 10 BLUES BADGER BROCK

Box Score Andrew Wasik knocked down a career-high 25 points and three other players hit double digits as the No. 10 Varsity Blues men’s basketball team defeated the Brock Badgers 96-86 on Friday, November 19 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.

With the win, the Blues improve to 4-1 and remain in second place in the OUA East, while the Badgers fall to 3-2 and sit in a three-way tie for third in the West division.

A native of Burnaby, B.C., Wasik led all players with 25 points and added eight boards in the process. Both Alex Hill of Toronto and Drazen Glisic of Sarajevo, BIH recorded double-doubles. Hill had 22 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while Glisic tallied 17 points and 10 boards. Fifth-year guard and Toronto native Anthony De Giorgio garnered 13 points and seven assists in the win.

Toronto dominated the game, outscoring Brock in all but the fourth quarter. However, the Blues struggled from beyond the arc, going 5-for-18 compared to Brock’s impressive 18 three-pointers spread consistently over four quarters of play. U of T did take control on the line, sinking 29-of-35 free throws on the night.

The Blues scored 25 points in both the first and second quarters to take an 11-point lead (50-39) at halftime. Wasik led the early charge with 11 first-quarter points, while Hill and Glisic combined for 13 points and five boards in the second frame.

Brock’s Mike Cruickshank of Toronto kept the game within reach and led the visiting squad with 11 points in the first half.

Toronto continued their stellar play throughout the third, but the Badgers knocked down four three-pointers, two coming from Brampton, Ont., native Michael Williams, to keep the game respectable. Glisic drained a huge jumper as the buzzer sounded to give the Blues a 71-57 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Cruickshank shot one of his game-high five three’s with 3:35 remaining to bring the game within 10; however, the Blues would hold onto their lead to come away with their fourth win of the season.

Brock was led by Cruickshank’s 17 points, while Welland, Ont., native Cedric Kasongo had 14 and Andrew Kraus (Markham, Ont.) recorded 12 in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow night when they host the Guelph Gryphons at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
