Box Score The Varsity Blues men’s basketball team fell 81-69 to the No. 9 Windsor Lancers on Friday, November 12 at St. Denis Centre.
With the loss, the Blues move to 2-1 and sit tied with Queen’s for second place in the OUA East, while the Lancers move to 3-0 and sit atop the West division.
Second-year forward Alex Hill led the Blues with a team-high 19 points and seven boards, while both Sean Nickel and Arun Kumar had 11 points in the losing cause.
Windsor came out on fire as they exploded at the offensive end and applied tremendous pressure on Toronto's defence.
Second-year Lancers guards Josh Collins and Enrico Diloreto scored from long range and attacked the basket to give the home team a 28-11 lead after one quarter.
The Varsity Blues mounted a small charge in the second but still trailed 40-27 at the break.
The Blues perked up in the second half; however the Lancers did not let up and the 13-point halftime lead did not dwindle.
For the Lancers, Diloreto had a game-high 23 points, while Collins finished with 14 points, eight steals, seven rebounds and seven assists in a very impressive performance.
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow night when they head to London, Ont., to take on the Western Mustangs. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
