BLUES FALL TO LIONS

The Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team dropped three close sets (18-25, 21-25, 20-25) to the York Lions on Sunday, October 31 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.

Second-year rightside hitter Alexandra Hudson (Mississauga, Ont.) led the Blues with five kills and a team-high 17 digs. Calgary natives Shannon and Katrina Rossall chipped in with five kills each, while libero Piril Candas had 11 digs in the loss.

"We've had some bright spots and we are continuing to improve," said Varsity Blues head coach Kristine Drakich.  "The team is improving and working hard. Each player has been able to demonstrate their strength and this group of new players is beginning to develop into a team."

"Our schedule has been challenging for a new team - with four matches already and seven more in the month of November," added Drakich. "I believe we are up for this challenge and I am confident that we will continue to improve and begin to capitalize on the opportunities that are created."

York was led by Brandie Wilkerson, who led all players with 13 kills. Sarah Sutton totalled nine kills and 15 digs, while Melissa Humana-Paredes had 19 digs in the victory.

The Varsity Blues return to the court next Friday, November 5 when they travel to Guelph to take on the Gryphons. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
