Jake Dysselhof recorded a game-high 15 kills as the Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team came out on top of a 3-2 (20-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-23, 16-14) battle with the York Lions on Sunday, October 31 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.
With the win, the Blues improve to 2-2 and sit in a five-way tie for third in the OUA standings.
A native of Mississauga, Ont., Dysselhof added nine digs to his 15-kill performance. Fellow rookie Jonathan Adomait of Dundas, Ont., also had an impressive game with 12 kills and a team-high 12 digs, while Blues co-captain Adam Palmer (Ottawa) had nine and Killian Neman of Kelowna, B.C. had eight. First-year setter Alex Park chipped in with 33 assists in the five-set victory.
The Lions were led by Sutton, Ont., native Ray Szeto’s 14-kill performance. Sam Song added 11 kills and two blocks, while fellow Toronto native Paul Jakubiak had 12 digs and 45 assists. Nikola Sandic of Etobicoke, Ont., recorded 14 digs in the loss.
The Varsity Blues return to the court next Friday, November 5 when they head to Guelph to take on the Gryphons. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
