The Varsity Blues men’s basketball team found their shooting stroke, which had eluded them the last few games. They scored over 100 points for the first time this season in a 105-63 lopsided victory over the RMC Paladins on Saturday, Jan. 9.
In an atypical afternoon game in Kingston, Toronto shot over 54% from the floor, including 53% from three-point range (16-30). They out-rebounded their opponent 32-24 and also limited their turnovers to just five.
The win gives Toronto a 6-4 record and moved into sole possession of third place in the OUA East division.
Five Blues were in double figures and all 12 players scored at least two points. Justin Holmes and Rob Paris as each knocked down 18 points each, while reserve guard Ben Garvin of Holland Landing, Ont., fifth-year veteran Nick Magalas (Burlington, Ont.) and freshman Dakota Laurin added 11 points apiece.
A St. Catharines native, Paris was perfect from beyond the arc, hitting all four of his three-point attempts. A season-high for Laurin, the Calgary native was good on 5-of-8 shooting in 19 minutes of action.
The Blues stormed out of the gate in the first quarter, outscoring the Paladins 36-9 in the first 10 minutes of play.
RMC was able to make a slight dent into the Blues lead in the second as they put up 22 points to Toronto’s 15; however, the visitors came out after halftime and put this contest to bed. With another +30 point quarter (33), the Blues went on to claim the decisive victory.
