WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL RUNS OVER RAMS 3-0

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team came away with an impressive 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-19) victory against the Ryerson Rams on Saturday, January 16 at Kerr Hall. 

The Blues worked hard and took a decisive lead in the first set and continued gaining momentum throughout. Despite their best efforts, the Rams couldn’t break through Toronto’s defence and fell in three straight sets. 

Fifth-year veteran Heather Bansley (Waterdown, Ont.) recorded a game-high 12 kills and three serving aces. Kristina Valjas (Toronto) tallied eight kills, six blocks and three serving aces, while Karlee Diesing (Coquitlamn, B.C.) had eight kills. 

North Vancouver, B.C. native Kathleen Mahannah garnered 22 assists, while libero Michelle Wood (Toronto) led all players with six digs in the victory. 

Kasandra Bracken (Sherwood Park, Ont.), Leah Saar (Ajax, Ont.) and Jennifer Williams (Stoney Creek, Ont.) each had four kills in the loss. 

The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday, January 22 when they host the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Opening serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
