BLUES BASEBALL FALLS TO BADGERS 3-2

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues baseball team was edged 3-2 by the Brock Badgers on Tuesday, September 15 at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus.

The Badgers opened the scoring, getting on the board in the second inning when senior Korie Assivero (Barrie, Ont.) worked the count for a lead-off walk and later scored when rookie Bill Steven (Fonthill, Ont.) grounded out.

In the fifth inning, Brock scored two more runs when Steven hit a lead off double and rookie Mitch Peragine (Hamilton, Ont.) plated him with a two out hit. Two batters later, senior Mike Walker (Guelph, Ont.) blasted a line drive down the third base line that scored Peragine, making it 3-0.

Toronto mounted a rally, scoring one run in the seventh and another in the ninth to make it 3-2. Despite their best efforts, the Blues were unable to complete the comeback and fell to the first-place Badgers.
Fourth-year veteran Pat Janssen (Toronto) and first-year Jonathan Isaac each had an RBI, while Tyler Wilson (Port Hope, Ont.) pitched eight innings in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to action on Saturday, September 19 when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
