BLUES WIN, WILL HOST OUA QUARTERFINAL

With second place in the OUA East division on the line, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball handily defeated the RMC Paladins 3-0 on Saturday, February 7 in Kingston, Ont.

Toronto dominated the entire game, taking it in three straight sets 25-8, 25-18, 25-11.

Caley Venn (Bowmanville, Ont.) led all players with 12 kills, while Heather Bansley (Waterdown, Ont.) had 11. Dianne Burrows (Richmond Hill, Ont.) tallied nine kills and a game-high 12 digs and Shannon Rossall (Calgary, Alta.) garnered four serving aces in the victory.

Alexandria Daymond (Ottawa, Ont.) and Melissa McCoy (Kingston, Ont.) led the Paladins with five kills apiece.

The Blues two victories this weekend, combined with the Ottawa Gee-Gees loss to the Brock Badgers, left them tied with Ottawa for second place in the OUA East division with identical 12-7 records.

After seven tie-breaking regulations, the Blues come out on top and will host the OUA East quarter-final game next Saturday, February 14 against the Gee-Gees at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Game time is 2 p.m.
