MEN'S BASKETBALL BRUISES BADGERS 68-62

The Varsity Blues men’s basketball team started their weekend on a good note, eking out a six-point win, 68-62, over the host Brock Badgers in St. Catharines, Ont.

The difference on Friday night (Nov. 20) - Toronto native and third-year guard Anthony De Giorgio’s drained a season-high15 points, as did Nick Magalas (Burlington, Ont.), and Drazen Glisic hauled in a career-high 17 rebounds.

This was the second road win in three tries for Varsity who now push their record to 3-2 on the season and move into a three-way tie with the Ryerson Rams and the Ottawa Gee-Gees for second in the OUA East.

In a close contest through the first two quarters of play, the Blues would head into halftime with a slight 35-33 lead over the 1-and-4 Badgers. However, it would be Brock coming out of the gates in the second half, looking to take command of the game on their home court.

Having been outscored 18-12 in the third quarter, Toronto exploded in the final frame and clamped down on the defensive, holding their opponent to just 11 fourth-quarter points while knocking down 21 of their own to close out the game and seal the victory.

Glisic (Sarajevo, BIH), one point shy of a double-double, also added nine points, while Nick Snow (London, Ont.) had 10 of his own and grabbed seven boards, six on the offensive glass.

The Badgers had four players in double figures; Clinton Springer-Williams and Joel Whitty tallied 13 each, while Didi Mukendi and Brian Nahimana had 14 and 10 respectively.

Toronto is back on the court tomorrow night, Nov. 21, as they head to Guelph to play the Gryphons. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
