WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL DROPS CLOSE DECISION TO GAELS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team narrowly fell to the Queen’s Gaels 3-2 (17-25, 25-12, 19-25, 11-15) on Friday, November 20 at Queen’s Bartlett Gym.

The Blues got off to a rough start, losing the first match 17-25, but rebounded in the second (25-12). Queen’s again took the lead in the third set, however U of T held their ground and put up a valiant effort, pushing the game into a fifth set. Unfortunately, Toronto could not complete the comeback attempt.

Fifth-year left side hitter Heather Bansley (Waterdown, Ont.) led the Blues with 12 kills and 10 digs on the night. Coquitlam, B.C. native Karlee Diesing had 10 kills, while setter Kathleen Mahannah (North Vancouver, B.C.) tallied 28 assists and 10 digs in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to action when they take on the RMC Paladins tomorrow night in Kingston, Ont. The game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
