WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL BLANKED BY WARRIORS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball fell 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 30-28) to the Waterloo Warriors on Sunday, November 1 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.

In the first game the Blues came out swinging and took an early lead. Karlee Diesing (Coquitlam, B.C.) worked hard to keep Waterloo at bay, but the Warriors managed to gain and maintain their advantage.

It was a back-and-forth battle for the Blues for the rest of the game. In the second set, Rebecca Crosier (Ottawa, Ont.) and Katrina Rossall (Calgary, Alta.) helped keep the game close with five and three kills, respectively. The teams went on to tie nine times before the Warriors tallied another five points over Toronto.

In the final and closest set, the Blues fought hard, repeatedly blocking the Warriors shots and throwing powerful serves. Every time the Warriors took the lead, the Blues quickly made up the gap; the Warriors finally managed to clinch the game 30-28.

The top scorers for the Warriors were Laura Klein (Kitchener, Ont.) and Megan McKenzie (S. Surrey, B.C.) who each scored an impressive 10 kills apiece. Notably, Bojana JJosipovic (Kitchener, Ont.) raked in 8 kills and Kayla Ng landed 34 assists for Waterloo.

Diesing was named player of the game for the Blues with ten impressive kills and 14 digs. Crosier added 5 kills in the loss.

The Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team return to action next Sunday, November 8 when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
