The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team recorded their second win of the weekend with a 3-1 victory over the Western Mustangs on Sunday, October 25 in London, Ont.
The Blues took the first game 25-16, before dropping the second 25-20. U of T rallied to take the next two games 27-25 and 25-18 to secure the victory.
Toronto’s trio of Heather Bansley (Waterdown, Ont.), Kristina Valjas (Toronto) and Karlee Diesing (Coquitlam, B.C.) again led the Blues.
Bansley led all players with 20 kills, six digs and two serving aces, while Valjas tallied 16 kills and Diesing had 15. Fifth-year setter Kathleen Mahannah (North Vancouver, B.C.) continued her stellar play, amassing 53 assists in the victory.
Western was led by Sarah Lowry’s (Calgary, Alta.) 11 kills and 10 digs. Elaine Screaton (Calgary, Alta.) also had an impressive performance with 10 kills and seven digs and Jacqueline Robinson (Vancouver, B.C.) led all players with 13 digs in the loss.
The Varsity Blues return to action Friday, October 30 when they host the Guelph Gryphons in their 2009-10 home opener at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
