The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team opened the 2009-10 OUA regular season with a 3-0 victory over the Windsor Lancers on Saturday, October 24 at St. Denis Centre.

Fifth-year veteran Heather Bansley (Waterdown, Ont.) led all players with 10 kills as the Varsity Blues defeated the Lancers in straight sets (25-20, 25-16, 25-18).

Kristina Valjas (Toronto) and fourth-year transfer Karlee Diesing (Coquitlam, B.C.) each added eight kills, with Valjas leading the team with six digs.

Blues setter Kathleen Mahannah (North Vancouver, B.C.) controlled the play throughout the game, tallying 25 assists in the victory

The Lancers were led by Michelle Pierce’s nine kills in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow afternoon as they travel to London, Ont. to take on the Western Mustangs. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
