The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team defeated the Ryerson Rams 3-0 on Sunday, January 18 at Kerr Hall.
The Blues were dominant throughout the afternoon, easily taking the first two games 25-12 and displaying resilient and relentless effort with a 28-26 victory to secure the shutout win.
Fourth-year veteran Kristina Valjas (Toronto) had a game-high 13 kills, while Dianne Burrows (Richmond Hill, Ont.) and Caley Venn (Bowmanville, Ont.) tallied seven kills apiece. Heather Bansley (Waterdown, Ont.) garnered four serving aces and Blues libero Michelle Wood (Toronto) led all players with seven digs in the victory.
With the win, Toronto improves their record to 7-7 and sit tied with the Queen’s Gaels for third place in the OUA East division.
The Varsity Blues return to action next weekend (Jan. 24-25) as they travel to Thunder Bay, Ont. for a doubleheader against the Lakehead Thunderwolves.
