MEN’S BASKETBALL BEATS PALADINS 79-40

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s basketball team defeated the RMC Paladins 79-40 on Saturday, January 17 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.

The Blues came out on fire, shooting 57% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc in the first half. Blues guard Rob Paris (Mississauga, Ont.) led the way with a perfect shooting percentage, hitting five jumpers and three three-pointers for 13 points, while Blues player of the game Jahmal McQueen also held a hot hand with 11 points in the first two quarters.

Toronto held a comfortable 48-23 lead at halftime.

After a low scoring third quarter, the Blues went on to outscore the Paladins 20-9 in the fourth to secure the 39-point victory.

McQueen recorded a team-high 16 points and three blocks, while Paris tallied 15 points for the Blues. Toronto natives Justin Holmes and Anthony DeGiorgio added 11 and 12 points, respectively.

Second-year forward Nicolas Cooke (Toronto) had a game-high 17 points and nine boards for the Paladins.

The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday, January 23 when they host the Laurentian Voyageurs at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
