BLUES FALL FLAT IN OTTAWA

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Sunday, January 11 at Montpetit Hall in Ottawa.

Although Toronto was able to keep things close, Ottawa came out on top for the shutout win (25-21, 25-17, 25-21).

Aminata Diallo (Travnik, BIH) recorded a team-high 12 kills and Karine Gagnon (Granby, Que.) tallied 12 digs in the Gee-Gees victory.

Heather Bansley (Waterdown, Ont.) led the Blues with 12 kills and eight digs, while Kristina Valjas (Toronto) recorded eight kills in the loss. Dana Collins (Sudbury, Ont.) and Kathleen Mahannah (North Vancouver, B.C.) split setting duties, posting 16 and 17 assists, respectively.

With the loss, Toronto (6-6) is tied for third place with the Queen’s Gaels in the OUA East division.

The Varsity Blues return to action this Thursday, January 15 when they host the York Lions at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
