The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s basketball team got by the Lakehead Thunderwolves in a tightly contested 69-63 match-up on Saturday, November 8th at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.
In what proved to be a very close contest, the Blues found a way to narrowly outscore their opponents in each quarter.
Matthew Powell (Toronto, Ont.) and Jamie Searle (Belleville, Ont.) led a late Lakehead charge, scoring eight and nine points, respectively in the final frame. However, ten of a game-high 20 points from Blues forward Nick Snow (London, Ont.) would help hold off the ‘Wolves as Toronto escaped with the victory.
Snow led all players with 20 points and nine boards, while fourth-year veteran Rob Paris (St. Catharines, Ont.) recorded 19 points for the Blues. London, Ont. native Patrick Sewell and Nick Magalas (Burlington, Ont.) each tallied ten points in the win.
Yoosrie Salhia (Toronto, Ont.) recorded a double-double for the Thunderwolves, tallying 18 points and 17 boards. Kiraan Posey (Baltimore, Md.) added 17 points, while Searle scored 12 points for Lakehead in the loss.
The Varsity Blues are on the road next weekend, facing the Windsor Lancers on Friday, November 14 and the Western Mustangs on Saturday, November 15. Both games are scheduled to start at 8 p.m.
