BLUES FALL TO WARRIORS 64-61

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s basketball team narrowly fell 64-61 to the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday, November 22 at the PAC (Physical Activity Centre).

The Blues got off to a slow start and found themselves trailing 38-25 at halftime. Toronto narrowed the gap in the third quarter, holding Waterloo scoreless over the last 4:51 to put them within five (47-42) going into the final frame.

Toronto took a 48-47 lead with less than nine minutes to play and it was a see-saw affair from then on with five lead changes and two ties. The Warriors pulled ahead in the dying minutes and held a three-point lead. With six seconds left to play, the Blues put up a long three that fell short at the buzzer.

Rob Paris (St. Catharines, Ont.) led the Blues for the second consecutive game, posting 20 points and seven boards. Nick Magalas (Burlington, Ont.) recorded 17 points on the night, while Patrick Sewell (London, Ont.) had 10 points in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return home to host the Brock Badgers next Friday, November 28 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
