MEN’S VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO WESTERN

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team fell 3-1 to the Western Mustangs on Saturday, November 22 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.

After losing the first set 25-17, the fantastic blocking of Adam Palmer (Ottawa, Ont.) rallied the Blues to take the second 25-16.

The third game proved to be the closest of the afternoon as both teams went back-and-forth gaining one point leads, only to lose them in the next rally. However, the Mustangs pulled ahead towards the end to win 25-21.

Western carried that momentum over to defeat Toronto 25-21 in the last set and secure the 3-1 victory.

The Mustangs were led by Kyle Bryce’s (Guelph, Ont.) 15 kills and five digs. Eric Simon (London, Ont.) recorded 13 kills and eight digs, while Reid Halpenny (Exeter, Ont.) notched 10 kills and eight digs.

Mike Manning (Vernon, B.C.) was named the Varsity Blues player of the game, tallying 10 kills and eight digs. Jessi Lelliott (Kelowna, B.C.) added nine digs and six kills, while Palmer posted six solo blocks in the loss.

The Varsity Blues are home again next weekend as they host the Ryerson Rams on Saturday, November 29th at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. The game is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
