The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team came away with a 3-0 victory over the Windsor Lancers on Friday, November 21 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.
The first set proved to be the closest of all three games. The Blues got off to a slow start, but were able to rally back to tie things up 11-11. Toronto began to dominate and came away with the first set 25-20 before taking the second and third games 25-12 and 25-14, respectively.
The Lancers were led by Maidstone, Ont. native Brianna Binder who recorded eight kills and nine digs in the loss. Jennifer Ellig (Windsor, Ont.) was named the Lancers player of the game with four kills and four digs.
Heather Bansley (Waterdown, Ont.) led the Blues with 11 kills and six digs and was named Toronto’s player of the game for her efforts. Fourth-year setter Kathleen Mahannah (North Vancouver, B.C.) controlled the ball throughout the night, tallying 27 assists, while Blues libero Michelle Wood (Toronto) led all players with 10 digs in the victory.
The Varsity Blues return home tomorrow night to host the Western Mustangs at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Game time is schedule for 6 p.m.
