The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s hockey team scored five powerplay goals in a 6-3 victory over the McGill Redmen on Friday, November 21 in Montreal, Que.
The Redmen got on the board first, scoring their only powerplay goal in the first two minutes of the game.
Kyle Ventura (Scarborough, Ont.) and Blues captain Brendan Sherrard (Etobicoke, Ont.) set up Byron Elliott (Burlington, Ont.) a minute later for Toronto’s first powerplay marker. Ventura added another goal midway through the first period from Blues defencemen Stephan Duffy (Toronto) and Ed Snetsinger (Ajax, Ont.). Toronto held a 2-1 lead going into the second period.
McGill again scored in the first two minutes of the period and tied the game with an even strength goal from Francis Verrault-Paul (Mashteuiatsh, Que.). Elliott would add his second goal of the game but the Redmen answered back to even the score again. With McGill forward Marc-Andre Dorion (St. Hubert, Que.) in the penalty box, Ventura tallied his second of the night for what would be the eventual game-winner with less than three minutes to go in the second period.
Blues veterans Snetsinger and Joe Rand (Hamilton, Ont.) each added some insurance in the third period to secure the 6-3 Toronto victory.
Snetsinger recorded one goal and three assists in the victory, while Elliott and Ventura each scored two goals and one assist. Duffy garnered three assists with Rand picked up one goal and one assist in the Blues second-straight win.
The Varsity Blues travel to the Ottawa to take on the Carleton Ravens tomorrow (Nov. 22) at 3 p.m.
