The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team recorded two wins this weekend (Nov. 14-15), defeating the Laurier Golden Hawks 3-0 on Friday and coming away with a 3-1 victory over the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday night.
The Blues beat the Golden Hawks on Friday night in three close sets (27-25, 25-17, 27-25). Fourth-year veteran Heather Bansley (Waterdown, Ont.) led all players with 21 kills in the victory. Dianne Burrows (Richmond Hill, Ont.) tallied 14 kills and eight digs while Toronto native Michelle Wood had a game-high 15 digs.
Toronto continued their excellent play on Saturday night, defeating the Warriors 3-1 (25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 25-20). Bansley had another impressive game, amassing 18 kills and 27 digs, while fourth-year arts and science student Kristina Valjas (Toronto) led all players with 20 kills. Burrows added eight kills and 17 digs with Woods recording 20 digs in the win. Kathleen Mahannah (North Vancouver, B.C.) controlled the ball well, tallying 45 assists for the Blues.
The Varsity Blues return home to host the Windsor Lancers on Friday, November 21st and the Western Mustangs on Saturday, November 22nd at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Game time for both days is scheduled for 6 p.m.
