Laura Upenieks claimed her second straight and third career OUA individual title in leading the Varsity Blues women’s golf team to their seventh straight provincial banner this past week at Heron Point Golf Links in Ancaster, Ont.
A PhD in sociology candidate, Upenieks shot a two-day total of 160 (78,82) to earn the Judy McCrae Trophy as individual champion, one stroke ahead of former Varsity Blue and current Guelph Gryphon Sarah Dunning 161 (79,82).
The Etobicoke, Ont., native also earned her 10th career OUA all-star nod, shooting 23 pars or better over the 36-hole championship. Toronto finished with a combined team score of 492, 18 strokes ahead of the OUA silver medalist Queen's Gaels.
