Fourth-year left side hitter Caleigh Cruickshank totalled 47 points and 28 digs and was named the championship MVP in helping the Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team to their first-ever CIS title this past weekend in Brandon, Man.
The health studies major from Etobicoke, Ont., led the Blues with 16.5 points on 14 kills, 1.5 blocks and one ace and added 15 digs as the Blues edged the McGill Martlets, 3-2, in quarter-final action.
She followed that up with a game-high 22 points on 18 kills, three aces and one block and added eight digs in Toronto’s 3-1 semifinal victory over UBC Okanagan on Saturday night. Cruickshank, who was also named a member of the CIS tournament all-star team, had 8.5 points on eight kills and an assisted block and five digs in Toronto’s dominant 3-0 victory over the defending champion Trinity Western Spartans.Â
