Fourth-year goalie Nicole Kesteris posted 58 saves in helping the University of Toronto Varsity Blues to two big wins in OUA women’s hockey action this weekend.

The Aurora, Ont., native recorded 24 saves in helping the Blues to a 2-1 upset win over the No. 6 Western Mustangs on Friday night at Varsity Arena. Kesteris came just 24 seconds shy of the shut out as Western’s Stacey Scott banged home a rebound on a 6-on-5 advantage at the end of the game.

The win marked the second time Kesteris helped U of T defeat a nationally ranked opponent (Guelph, Oct. 10) this season.

Kesteris then turned around and made a season-high 34 saves as the Blues topped the Windsor Lancers 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. The human geography major now sits first among OUA goaltenders and second in the CIS with a .960 save percentage in six games.

Toronto (6-1-1) sits in third place, two points out of first and one point out of second with a game in hand over both the Queen’s Gaels (6-0-3) and Guelph Gryphons (7-2-0).
