Veteran Steffi Wong was a triple winner in leading the Varsity Blues women’s tennis team to their 10th OUA title in team history this past weekend (Oct. 11-13) at Mayfair Park.
A sixth-year veteran of the team, Wong claimed gold in the No. 2 singles flight. The Unionville, Ont., native and dentistry major was dominant on the court all weekend and did not drop a set throughout the tournament, defeating McMaster’s Shivanie Skandarahah 6-0, 6-3, York’s Julia Kedrzycki 6-0, 6-1 and topping Montreal’s Karine Bourdages 6-4, 6-1 in the finals.
Wong, paired with teammate Aya Bara, was also crowned the No. 1 women’s doubles champion with an 8-6 victory over York’s Ushanova and Kedrzycki in the finals. The duo cruised to the gold-medal match with an 8-3 win over UOIT and 8-4 victory over Montreal.
She earned OUA all-star honours for the second straight season.
