First-year player Zain Manji was perfect in the No. 1 spot as he helped the OUA defending champion Varsity Blues men’s tennis team to a perfect 3-0 record on opening weekend (Sept. 14-16).
Manji defeated McGill’s Haythem Laaribi 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles position on Saturday and York’s Rob McCallum 6-4, 6-3 on Sunday in leading Toronto to 4-3 victories on both days.
The Ajax, Ont., native also paired with third-year veteran Cyrus Elmack-Mackie to take both No. 1 doubles matches. The duo defeated McGill’s Laaribi and Michel Berthelemot, 8-5, before dominating York’s McCallum and Olivier Thir 8-3 on Sunday.
