First-year standout Rachel Jewett won two medals in leading the Varsity Blues women’s track & field team to a fourth-place finish at the 2012 CIS championships this past weekend in Winnipeg.

A Toronto native, Jewett opened the three-day meet with a bronze-medal finish in the women’s pentathlon. The 2012 OUA field events most valuable performer and pentathlon champion wrapped up the five-event competition with a first-place finish in the 800-metre run (2:13.51). She also placed fourth in both the high jump (1.63m) and 60-metre hurdles (9.09), eighth in the shot put (9.67m) and ninth in the long jump (5.06m).

Jewett then helped U of T to a CIS record-breaking and gold-medal performance in the women’s 4x400 relay on Day 3. She ran the second leg as the Blues crossed the finish line in 3:41.47, a full four seconds ahead of the previous record (3:45.83).

The second-year physical education student also finished tied for fourth in the women’s high jump (1.65m).
