McFarlane returned to the women’s program in 2011 after a one-year stint in 2004, where he helped guide the Blues to the OUA bronze medal. He was named the head coach of the women's team in 2012. McFarlane has been a prominent figure in girls youth soccer. He was the technical director of development teams in the Brams United Girls Soccer Club from 2004-06, while also coaching at various levels within the West Rouge, Ajax United and Erin Mills Soccer Clubs.
