Biography

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's water polo team is proud to announce the addition of Liana Sheridan to their 2023-24 roster.

Sheridan began playing water polo in her sophomore year at high school and was varsity all three years played. In her junior year, she was the starting center forward and earned Honorable Mention second team pick for the SCVAL league. The following year, she was named captain and made the SCVAL league first team.

In the summers, Sheridan played for West Valley Water Polo Club. Her U18 team placed in the platinum division in back-to-back years at USA Water Polo’s Junior Olympics. This past summer, she participated in the WPS Puerto Rico beach water polo tournament and her team won the gold medal.

“With the graduation of left-handed winger Kaitlyn Palmer, we really needed to get a quality left-handed replacement, which we did with Liana agreeing to become a Varsity Blue,” stated Blues Head Coach, George Gross, Jr. “Liana brings size, speed and the ability to attack hard from the right side of the pool plus she can post up to center.”

Away from the pool and classroom, Sheridan established Pandico Studio, an entrepreneurship specializing in homemade stickers. She also loves to bake cupcakes, pastries and cakes, something which will no doubt endear her to her new teammates!

“I chose U of T because living in the heart of a diverse and vibrant city provides access to numerous networking opportunities, internships, and cultural experiences, enhancing both my educational and athletic journey,” emphasized Sheridan. “A year ago, I never even considered studying outside the States, but being able to continue my water polo career and study Engineering at a school that is reputable for both is a dream. I am so excited to meet new people, try new things, and start this new adventure! (and experience a real winter for the first time).

Sheridan will pursue a Mechanical Engineering degree.
