Peter McBride joined the Varsity Blues as an assistant coach to the men's hockey team in 2016-17. He then became assistant coach of the Blues women's program in 2017-18. Prior to the Blues, McBride was a long-time member of the York Lions men's hockey coaching staff, serving first as an assistant coach before becoming the associate head coach. He was also the head scout for the program.

His previous coaching experience includes three years as an associate coach with the Newmarket Hurricanes of the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League (OPJHL) and three seasons as an associate coach at Seneca College.

He has also been a course conductor for the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) and the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA).
