Kelly McDonald became the Varsity Blues women's hockey full-time assistant coach in August, 2023. An integral member of the minor girls' hockey community, McDonald has been an active volunteer and coach throughout several age categories.

Most recently, she has served as the Director of Women's Hockey with Everest Academy, along with being a teacher and guidance counselor. She has also spent the last seven years with the Etobicoke Dolphins program, serving in such roles as Director of Player Development, head coach with the under-15 and under-18 teams, and assistant coach with the under-22 squad.

At the provincial level, McDonald has worked with the Ontario Women's Hockey Association (OWHA) and Team Ontario as a video coach and assistant coach, while serving as head coach for Team Ontario at the 2018 and 2022 Ontario Summer Games.

Prior to her coaching career, McDonald was an NCAA Division I athlete competing for the University of Maine. She was team captain and received such honours as the Distinguished Scholar Award, Dean's List, and Presidential Scholar. Following her collegiate career, McDonald also played professionally with the Buffalo Beauts of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL).
