John brings to the Blues volleyball coaching team extensive national and international experience. He was a CIS gold medalist and tournament MVP (1985) while competing for the University of Manitoba. John competed at the 1984 Olympic Games and the 1983 Pan Am Games and at the 1990 world championships, and went on to serve as head coach for both the men's and women's beach volleyball teams at the 2003 Pan Am Games.
John brings to this leadership role 14 seasons of professional volleyball in Europe, where he made history as the first volleyball player in the world to exclusively employ the spike serve in every match.
Today, John Barrett is a member of Volleyball Canada’s Beach High Performance Committee and works as a realtor. He is married to U of T volleyball alumna Laura Inward.
