Previous Post-Secondary: Spent two seasons competing with the St. FX X-Men of the AUS...with the X-Men, O'Connell competed at both the 2022 and 2023 U SPORTS Cross Country National Championships...earned a top result of sixth-place at the 2023 AUS Cross Country Championships, posting a time of 26:35 to earn first team all-star selection and help St. FX to team silver...also picked up two provincial silver medals in relay events and a bronze in the 3000m at the 2024 AUS Track & Field Championships...garnered St. FX Track Runner of the Year honours for his strong 2023-24 campaign.

High School/Club: Delivered Top 10 results at major meets in 2022 such as the OFSAA Track & Field Championships, Ontario Indoor Championships, and Canadian U20 Championships.

"I chose U of T as it has all the characteristics one would look for in a university and team - a highly reputable school with great academics and a strong cross country and track and field program that will set me up for success," said O'Connell. "I am very excited to start my journey as a Varsity Blue and look forward to what is to come both on-and-off the track!"
